Have you ever been lost? It’s not fun is it? Actually, it’s pretty unsettling not knowing how to get to where you need to go. Did you ever walk out of a department store at a mall and not remember where you parked your car? You know where you are – Macy’s. You just don’t know where your car is parked! So, you just start to wander through the parking lot hitting your alarm on your key fob listening and hoping to hear your car honking at you.

Maybe you can relate to being lost on a trip before the days of GPS. I suppose men get the lion-share of the blame for attempting “shortcuts” that turn into “adventures” that nobody enjoys. Doesn’t the word “shortcut” come from the Latin word meaning “long way around”?

Whether we are looking for a parked car or a vacation destination, not knowing the correct direction can be frustrating. But when we are navigating through life it’s even more critical that we know the right direction to take.

If we take a wrong turn on a state route, we could be delayed for hours but if we take a wrong turn in life it could cause years of pain and heartache and maybe even worse. Somewhere along the way I’ve heard it said, “Your current condition is the sum total of your previous decisions.” I believe there’s truth to that statement while leaving room for the reality of unjust treatment by others such as, theft, wrongful termination etc.

So, how do we make right choices as we travel down the road of life? We need something to guide us, to show us the way. Consider Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” This bible verse gives us confidence to know that as we read the bible it will help us to see the things in life that may trip us up or the dangers that lie right in front of us. It will also reveal the right and wrong paths that are coming up, pointing out signs that state “Dead End” and “Bridge Out.” God has given us the Word (the bible) to show us how to travel through life avoiding the dangers of taking the wrong way.

Let’s take the “light” of His Word and use it to help us navigate for a successful journey!
