Lamentations 3:22-23

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

As we reflect on 2024 some of us have had great success, yet, others have had great challenges.  Certainly, many have experienced both success and challenge.  In any case we can all say to God “great is your faithfulness!” 

It’s good to review the previous year to remember both our successes and challenges.  To take stock in what our actions and reactions brought us.  When we do so, we learn about ourselves.  Did we make wise decisions?  Did we gather enough research before we made certain decisions?  Did we react out of pure emotion or wisdom?  Did we learn to live 2024 with an appreciation for God’s great love and compassion for us?

For those who might have had a particularly rough 2024 I want to encourage you to consider that God’s great love keeps us from being totally consumed by the difficulties of life.  Also, it’s healthy for all of us to remember that God is compassionate towards us.  Remember that God is not some distant, indifferent, cold God.  He cares for you.  God is faithful toward us each moment, each hour, each day, and yes, each year.

Some of you may remember the chorus to the hymn, Great Is Thy Faithfulness. 

“Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!”
  Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
    “Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!

People may let us down but God never will.  Just remember and rest in the fact that as you move beyond 2024 to 2025 that God has been and will always be loving and faithful to you.
